instruction

I do a considerable amount of ad hoc instruction, which, in a small, fast-paced high school library is ongoing and spontaneous. I also have experience in formal group instruction.

Computer Literacy Instruction (Winter/Spring 2011)

Hall Memorial Library, Ellington (where I work part-time) contracted with me to develop and teach a series of beginner computer literacy sessions. The library successfully obtained a grant from the Hartford Foundation “to advance 21st Century computer and Internet technologies.” With this grant, the library was able to renovate an existing space to outfit a computer lab and to provide instruction to patrons.

Units :

  1. Introduction to the computer
  2. Introduction to the internet and email
  3. Introduction to word processing
  4. Intermediate internet and email

Russian language and culture (2006-2011)

I enjoy collaborating with the high school’s Social Studies department to co-teach sessions on Russian language and culture for a Russian History elective offered to Juniors and Seniors. The units culminate in a Russian “feast” for which the students make (sometimes questionably) Russian dishes.

Units:

  • Russian alphabet 1
  • Russian alphabet 2
  • Russian names
  • Russian greetings
  • Common Russian phrases
  • Word game (Russian alphabet)
  • Deciphering recognizable Russian signs – presentation
  • Russian folk culture – presentation
  • Map quiz
  • Russian food and recipes – presentation
  • Feast

IT Training Module (LS 560 Spring 2009)

Horizon Wimba AppShare – Adobe Captivate

Using Adobe Captivate, e-learning authoring software, this was a team project to create an Information Technology-related training module.  Our team chose to create a training unit on AppSharing, a feature available in the Horizon Wimba online classroom that enables eLearning participants to share their screen content with others in real time.
